Much like everyone, the last 18 months have been a roller coaster of ups and downs for Green Squirrel as we’ve learned to navigate and adapt to a global pandemic alongside our community. So we are very happy and excited to announce that we are launching our Green Squirrel celebration this June, a four day extravaganza of virtual and in person events featuring some of our favourite community groups, local business and tutors across Cardiff!
Our exciting schedule features a celebration at our new Railway Gardens site in Splott where we’ll be joined by lots of lovely local groups for a plant giveaway, borrowing with Benthyg, fixing stuff with Repair cafe Wales, growing with Stargallot, hosting a Splo-down food co-op pop up and loose parts scrap play with Play Wales. We’ll also be gathering at the creative urban garden at Spit and Sawdust skatepark for an evening of pizza, stories from our storyteller Tamar, a live cooking demo from Lia of Lia’s kitchen and wonderful singing and performance from Oasis World Choir.
As well as our in person events we’ll be hosting a range of virtual activities, from a grow along with a VERY special celebrity guest, a series of summer supper video demos, a sneak peek at The Something Club, a community skill share and even a super squirrel scavenger hunt for all the family.

This celebration is a culmination of our three year National Lottery funded Green Squirrel project which saw us host more than 100 green skills workshops, community suppers and socials and creative climate actions across Cardiff, in order to empower people to take action & change their life, their community & their world for the better. We want to acknowledge, celebrate, and thank everyone who has played a part in making the few years so much fun, and played a part in bringing our community closer together as we embark on an exciting new project. Everyone is welcome to join in our celebrations, whether you’re a veteran squirrel or new to the community, we can’t wait to celebrate with you.
