Our virtual summer supper from Global Gardens

As part of our Green Squirrel celebration this month we collaborated with some of our favourite foody folk to host a virtual summer supper set at Global Gardens allotment.

Over the past few years some of our favourite events have been our secret squirrel suppers – bringing together community members, local chefs and organisations in often unusual settings to enjoy delicious food and share skills. We’ve hosted them in a converted garage, a skate park and even a  poly tunnel!

This year, during the Covid 19 pandemic we wanted to try something a little different and offer a supper experience that community members could join from the comfort and safety of their own home – so we asked some of our favourite foody friends to help us record video recipes and tours to create our virtual summer supper. And the great news is it’s all available online for you to enjoy any time you like! Below you’ll find a virtual garden tour of the Global Gardens allotment, a cocktail and mocktail recipe with Lia’s Kitchen and for the main course, seasonal courgette recipes from One Small Spoon, accompanied by tunes from Welsh musicians Ritual Cloak

Poppy welcomes you to Global Gardens – a beautiful community growing space in the heart of Cardiff. Find out what they are growing and harvesting in this valuable urban green space as Poppy invites you to explore the veg beds, the poly tunnel, the herb garden and lots more!

Next up it’s Lia from Lia’s Kitchen with this garden inspired herbal muddle cocktail and a mocktail too. Think wild strawberries, freshly picked mint, lemon and even some salad burnet – this cocktail really does taste like a summer evening in the garden!

And here’s a musical interlude whilst Lia shares how the garden inspired her herbal muddle cocktail, featuring the song ‘High teens low twenties’ from the latest Ritual Cloak album, Divine Invasions. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

Lastly, for the main course at our Virtual Summer Supper Vaida from One Small Spoon welcomes us into her kitchen to share not one, not two but THREE delicious ways to cook up courgettes this season!
