Growing community in Splott and Adamsdown this autumn

Once again, Cardiff is coming together for the Food Cardiff autumn festival, to help grow the vision of a city where everyone can access healthy, sustainable food. Here in Splott and Adamsdown there are so many fantastic events coming up that we thought we'd put together a run down of what o expect and how to get involved.

Saturday 16th October, 11:30am at StarGarAllot

Stargarallot Community Garden was created in 2018 to provide gardening volunteering opportunities. On the 16th volunteers, community representatives and other growing groups will gather to showcase the incredible Green Flag plot, share soup and inspire each other. Find out more here.

Community feast
Sunday 17th October, 12pm – 4pm, Oasis

Enjoy the first of a series of community meals that bring people together to enjoy a delicious, healthy meal that has been locally sourced, cooked by local chefs Lauren Saunders (Wild Thing) and Frankie and Anna (Bacareto). Everyone welcome!

Food Quiz and Curry Night
Sunday 17th October, 6pm at The Old Library

Enjoy a curry supper and test your food knowledge with Splott Community Volunteers’ Curry and Quiz Night. Find out some amazing and little-known facts about food with a tasty recipe to take home too. Book here. 

Virtual Grow-Along: Seeds and Spores
Wednesday 20th October, 6:30pm, Online

We are hosting another online gathering for anyone interested in growing, this time with theme of seeds and spores. Becca will be sharing seed saving advice and Leo Garcia will be joining us to share his adventures as a beginner mushroom grower. Register your place here.

Saturday 23rd October, 10:30am

After over five years of planning and fundraising, the time has finally come to build! Join us for tea, cake, music, and a short ceremony where everyone can help plant fruit trees to be fostered by local organisations until the site opens next year. Find out more here.

Apple Day with Orchard Cardiff
Saturday 23rd October, 3pm – 6pm, The Old Library

Orchard Cardiff are hosting a family-friendly apple preserving workshop, sharing learning about all the different ways how apples or other fruit can be preserved. More information here.

Harvest Tea & Pumpkin Spectacular!
Sunday 24th October, 1.30-4.00pm, The Old Library

Join Growing Street Talk for an autumn celebration – bring a plate of food to share with friends and neighbours and a pumpkin (carved or un-carved)! There’ll be a short demo to show you how to plant some bulbs to welcome the spring. There will also be free packs of spring bulbs for you to take away and plant!
