Celebrating our volunteers: Zack’s Story

A photo of Zack writing at a picnic table, with the quote "Since volunteering at Green Squirrel, I have gained confidence and I've found my voice"

Our volunteers are incredible, and it’s always a pleasure to share their success stories. Zack has kindly shared his journey at Railway Gardens with Eve, and explained a bit about what Green Squirrel means to him.

Zack has been a huge part of Railway Gardens before he became a volunteer; for over a year and a half, He became involved in the Railway Writers group before taking part in the Railway Gardens Circle. From there, he played a huge role in organising, and then taking part in, the Meet and Greet volunteer scheme.

Zack carries out a range of jobs, from admin in the cosy welcome cabin, to giving tours to any visitors on the site. Zack has always been a friendly face at Railway Gardens, who is willing to go above and beyond when it came to helping visitors and providing any information needed.

Zack enjoyed getting involved with summer events, such as the Stay and Play, and in the Winter, admin was his favourite job where he could stay warm with a cup of coffee.

Now in 2025, he remains a friendly face at Railway Gardens, who is willing to help anyone and is always open for a chat. Since taking on this role, he tells us that more opportunities have been available for him, and he has been able to find his voice and speak up about issues that are important to him.

Zack has been an integral part of the Green Squirell and Railway Gardens community, putting in lots of his free time to help others and build Green Squirrel to what it is today. We’re so grateful for everything he has done and for sharing his story. We wish Zack all the best with all the amazing things to come.
